Homemade Almond Butter

Today I am sharing a recipe for homemade almond butter with you. I have been seeing these recipes for homemade nut butters all over the internet (homemade peanut butter, cashews butter, etc.). I decided to try it myself and the result exceeded my expectations.

For this recipe you will need two basic things: almonds and food processor. That’s it! It is really that easy.

Homemade Almond Butter

  • (roasted) unsalted almonds
  • 1 tbsp honey (optional)
  • 1 tbsp coconut oil (optional)

If you wish to have an almond butter from roasted almonds, simply throw them in the oven for half hour at around 180 C. Once they cooled down, put the almonds to the food processor and start blending. The whole process will take approximately 5-6 minutes.

After about 1 minute the almonds will turn into fine grated nuts. Keep blending. In the third minute you will see a big clump of almonds swirling around your food processor. Do not get discouraged. At this point you might want to stop blending for a while, and scrape the stuck almonds from the walls. Keep blending.

In the next stage the almonds will become a thick paste. At this point you can add your honey. This step is optional. I added honey to bring out the taste and to satisfy my sweet tooth. I also added a bit of coconut oil. I noticed that my paste was very thick so the coconut thinned it out. This might be because my almonds were quite dry. Once you satisfy with the texture of our paste, you can stop blending and transfer your almond butter to a jar or container.

I store my homemade almond butter in the fridge. I am not sure how long it will last because I am completely obsessed with it. It also makes me happy that for once I know what I am eating because I put all the ingredients myself (no additives).
