Mermaid Powder on Regular Nail Polish Tutorial | Mermaid Effect Black

Hello my beautiful friends. In today’s post I am going to show you how to apply mermaid powder on regular nail polish. I get asked a lot whether it’s possible to use nail powder with normal nail polish. The answer is – yes! So I created a short video tutorial to demonstrate how you can apply mermaid powder on regular nail polish. I used the new Mermaid Effect Black ll by Indigo Nails in this video.

The key to to applying any mermaid powder is timing. You want your nail polish to dry just enough, so it’s still tacky. The powder particles will still be able to adhere to your nail, but the surface will be smooth and sparkly. You can apply the powder with your finger, but I like using a fan brush. It’s much gentler on the nail, so you won’t smudge the still tacky nail polish. Use gentle motions to apply the powder and once the whole nail is covered, you can rub the powder in. I recommend applying two layers of top coat for the smoothest finish.

I applied the Mermaid Effect Black ll on the gorgeous blue Aquamarina. The base color for the flowers is a light grey Top Secret. I applied a matte top coat before making the flowers with a dotting tool. The mermaid particles will not stick to the matte parts, only to the blue flowers, creating a beautiful effect.

If you are interested in purchasing the beautiful Mermaid Effect Black ll, you can find it HERE. Don’t let the name deceive you, because you can use this effect on any color – not only on black. Although, it looks great on darker colors, I have seen beautiful manicures with this effect on other bases too.
